I first started to become interested in dancing in 2006 after watching the film 'Step up' with Channing Tatum. I just found it so interesting how people were able to move their bodies like that to certain pieces of music. After watching this I started searching on youtube tutorials on how to do different moves. The first style I would say I learned was 'waving'....... and I remember I would stand in my room for hours in front of my mirrors practising to different music and trying different combinations that looked cool.
For years no-one knew I danced or loved dancing, this included my family. It was only around year 9 when I started to talk to people at school about it and would show them some moves I had learned. Every year at parents evening a few of my teachers would say to my mum 'she's good at her dancing, have you ever seen her?' which my mum would reply no. Which is then how my family started to become aware.
In 2010 I joined a local dance group. I was only in this group for a few year. In them years I performed at Brixton 02 Academy, Danson Festival, Dartford festival, christmas fairs ect. In 2012 I left that dance group and joined another local one, 2step. I was dancing for this group for a year, in that time I performed at a show that the dance school held itself. In 2012 I then became a teacher at this dance school for the younger ones. In 2014 I joined a dance group based in East London called Unity UK. This dance group has given me so many amazing experiences. Every month we have a performance or a competition. There has only been one competition where we have come second. August this year we flew out to Arizona, Phoenix to compete in the largest street dance competition, Hip Hop International. This was an amazing experience and my favourite one to date. Never did I think in 2006 after watching 'step up' would I come this far and be dancing in the places I have.
As we are now back from Arizona, we are working towards competitions coming up as well as performances!
Yeah, so that was a quick over view of how I started dancing and what dance groups I have been in......
